Lesson on being Nice

It is amazing that people would do the unbelievable stuff just to get money. Why are these people so desperate? Depriving the poor are no different from a mega robbery to the crook living in this country. From politicians to drug addicts along the streets, evil conquered them all.

Scene 1 – Day 1

While my sister cleaned the porch, someone approached the gate.

Hasan : Assalamualaikum kak, tu kipas angin kat depan rumah akak tu tak pakai ke? Kalau nak repair boleh saya tolong repairkan. Saya bagi harga murah je kak.
Peace be upon you sister, all the old fans in front of your house need repairing? I can do it at a small fee.

Nyah : Takpelah.
No, thanks

Hasan : Tu yang kat dalam bilik tu sape dan sakit apa?(sambil memanjangkan tengkuk meninjau kedalam).
Who’s that patient in the room? (While peeking)

Nyah : Tu mak saya, dia sakit stroke. Dah lumpuh sebelah badan.
My mom, paralyze due to stroke.

Hasan : Ye ke Kak? Mak saya pun macam tu jugak dulu, alhamdulillah dah sihat sekarang. Khasiat minyak urut beli dari India, sekarang kat Kelana Jaya pun boleh dapat ubat tu. Akak nak ke ubat tu, sebotol RM45 je, kalau nak bagi duit saya belikan
Is it? My mom used to suffer from that as well, thank god there’s this medicine brought from India. RM45, if you get it in Kelana Jaya. Just give me the money; I’ll get it for you.

Nyah : Takpelah, suami saya takde kat rumah.
No thanks. My husband is not in.

Scene 2 – Day 4

Hasan : Assalamualaikum!!
Peace be upon you!!

Nyah : W’salam, ye kenapa.
Peace be upon you too, yes anything?

Hasan : Kak, ni ada saya belikan ubat itu hari. Cubalah kak.
I brought the medicine.

Nyah : Berapa nak kena bayar?
How much?

Hasan : Alah! Akak bayar je harga ubat RM45, saya ihklas je belikan.
Just pay for the med. RM45.

Nyah : Oklah, nah RM50, lebih tu ambik jelah.
Take this 50 and keep the change.

Hasan : Cubalah kak ye, kita ikhtiar je.
Try it and wish for the best.

Scene 3 – Day 7

Hasan : A’kum!!
Peace be upon you

S. Azmi: W’salam, ye nak ape tu?
Peace be upon you too, yes?.

Hasan : Akak ade kat rumah bang?
Is your sister in?

S. Azmi: Takde, kenapa?
Nope, anything?

Hasan : Saya yang bawakkan minyak untuk makcik hari tu, ni nak tanyalah apa khabar mak abang tu?
I’m the one who brought that medicine for your mom. What’s the progress like?.

S. Azmi : Ooo… ada gak saya dengar cerita tu, tak taula kakak saya dah sapu ke belum minyak tu kat mak.
Ooo…I don’t know whether they’ve used it.

Hasan : Ye ke? Takpelah macam tu, bolehke kalau saya nak tengok mak abang tu?(sambil berjalan masuk ke rumah)
Is it? Can I just look at your mom.( while walking in)

S. Azmi : Boleeeh, apalah pulak salahnye.
Ok, why not?

Di dalam bilik…
In the room…

Hasan : Kesian makcik ye, sabarlah. Mak saya pun macam ni jugak dulu. (sambil mengurut kaki mak)
Be strong Makcik, my mom used to suffer.( comforting my mom)

S. Azmi : Yelah, sabar jelah yang termampu.(sambil mengelap Mak dengan kain basah)
Yes, that’s all we can do for the time being

Hasan : Saya tolong orang buat rumah kat belakang sana tu, rumah orang cina. Usahkan air masak, air paip pun tak dibaginya. Boleh tak bang kalau nak mintak air minum sikit?
Can you get me something to drink?

S. Azmi : Booleeh, kejap saya ambilkan ye. (sambil berjalan ke dapur)
Ok.( off to the kitchen)

Ketika saya sedang menapis air kopi di dapur, tiba-tiba…
While preparing coffee…

Vroooom!! Kedengaran bunyi motor memecut laju bersama-sama telefon bimbit pemberian isteri kesayanganku….
Vhhhrooouum!! Bye-bye to my mobile- a gift from my lovely wife.

Happy New Year

Time was flying at Mach 1 (mach 1 = 340.29 m / s) last year, one minute I was sleeping and the next minute I was back to bed, basically there was no great achievement last year. Work as usual from 8 to 5 without any profitable outcome, lucky that my family members are there when I needed them the most.

Let me share you this email from my friend Saz who’s undergoing her PHD course down under,

hi...
I'm in antartica right now...tell me if u need any pixs from
here...will be sending u some anyway...i'm on yahoo IM at
sazlinasalleh...

saz

Good for her, her daily job is by far more exciting than the things I do in the office everyday… Antartica? Not in a million years for me bro…

My drastic solution to last year problems will be none then the obvious - other New Year resolutions. Achievable or not I don’t care, at least I’m trying. I've been a wage serf all my life and next year won’t be any different. Materialism is not a formula for happiness. Human life is short. We are born with nothing, and we die with nothing… soothing.

My Goal for 2006

1. Adopt healthy lifestyle by following the diet I printed out from internet two years ago and continue playing soccer everyday when it’s not raining.

2. Spend more time reading quran everyday (or should I say start reading the quran.)

3. Less cigarette…cut down to pack of 10’s a day

4. Come to work early everyday, or on time at least.

5. Start saving money for my family holiday, so that I can stop ‘berangan’ while watching the travel channel.

6. Not to miss any episode of CSI, Lost, MI and House.

7. Spend more time at the swimming pool or the park with Danial and Deena.

8. Pay back Jaja’s money

9. Finish all the projects at home such as the garden and aquarium.

10. Continue giving all I can to make my Supermak and Superbapak happy.

Those are things that I can think off for the moment, other than that will be one big bonus.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
‘Mahatma Gandhi’

I miss Teluk Intan...

Next week Hari Raya Qurban, no plan yet…maybe a journey back to Juaseh. To all my muslim friends ‘Selamat Aidiladha’.
